Sexy Science!

And sexy scientists.

It’s happening! At least, I hope it is…

Rock star physicist, Brian Cox, tells us about the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, and how scientists are trying to find the theory of everything. It’s thrilling, it’s exciting, it’s hot – literally hot for quite a long time after Big Bang. Brian is thrilling and exciting and hot, himself, and just damn well worth listening to :)

Are you in love, yet?

Edit: I really should have mentioned this when I orignally posted, but didn’t, so decided to add it because I think it’s worth mentioning here, as well as in the comments section.

As well as being an excellent, enthusiastic communicator of science, Prof Cox really did used to be a rock star. He was the keyboard player for a UK band called D:Ream

This is D:Ream with one of their British hits:

Now are you in love?

Brian Cox is one in a million: a bona fide top-rank rocker who did the hard work to become a bona fide astrophysicist. I have invited him to speak next summer at The Summer Science Program (www.ssp.org), an educational program for super-bright teens that started in 1959.

Steve, I agree with you totally about Brian Cox. I spent some happy time checking out your link, and what an exciting program it is! I do hope that he agrees to speak to your budding scientists.

OMG, he’s so adorkable, in his enthusiasm for his subject. I love anyone who exhibits such passion, even if I can’t understand a darned bit of it.

  4. Oh, Barb! Adorkable! A new word that I shall treasure! And yes, Michelle, it’s true. Smart can be very very sexy!

What Eileen said about adorkable – great word! And yeah, particle physics isn’t excatly my strongest point either, though I do try. But take heart, Richard Feynmann (Nobel-prize winning physicist) once said something along the lines of nobody really understanding quantum mechanics.

As for Brian Cox, yeah, Eileen, smart is verrry sexy! And he really did used to be a rock star. He was keyboard player for D:Ream, while studying for his undergraduate degree.

Here’s D:Ream with one of their most popular hits in the UK: (you’ll need to copy and paste the URL).

Coincidentally, the lead singer of that group was Peter Cunnah – no relative as far as we know.

I do love the brainy type, nothing is better than having a man talk about protons. I should marry a doctor…a rock star doctor…who adopts children from random countries!!!!

  7. Michelle says:

    Hi Jenny,

LOL, I know what you mean about men who talk protons. And quarks (ah, those charmed quarks!). And hopefully sometime after Wednesday Higgs bosons! We’ll see. . . :)

  8. Michelle says:

Eep, I meant to include in my last comment, sometime after Wednesday WHEN THE LHC HOPEFULLY WILL BE UP AND RUNNING!
