96% of the universe is missing. It’s true. All that dark matter and dark energy is in hiding. And while scientists are all busy looking for it, I have a question of my own.
Where is all the Wifi in Australia? Because I’m pretty convinced that 96% of it is missing here in the Antipodes. I’ve been looking for it for the past two weeks or so since Oh Patient One and I arrived here to visit family and friends. I searched Melbourne. I scoured Brisbane. I checked out Cabarita Beach where we are now staying. . .
Whatever are you going on about, Michelle? I hear you all cry. How can 96% of the Internet be missing in Australia?
Well, it’s not the Internet that’s actually missing. It’s Internet connectivity. Australia is a gorgeous, lovely place, with sophisticated cities and flawless beaches and great people. But Oh Patient One and I have been cruelly frustrated in our quest to find bars and restaurants that offer Wifi, or even find any Internet cafes.
So yesterday, when we walked into a really nice bar/restaurant a few miles from where we are staying, and asked one of the bar staff, “Do you have Wifi?” in tired, resigned voices, we nearly fainted with shock when he said, “Yes.”
Let’s just say that Oh Patient One and I are now drinking far too much coffee than is good for us in our new favorite Australian bar.
Back soon with more adventures in Oz!

Oh, hurray! I often wonder if I’d be able to function at all with out the internet. I’m pretty sure I was able to cook, shop and stay in touch with friends before the Internet came along, but I don’t really remember how.
LOL, Eileen. I can do without the Internet for a few days, but a few weeks is a bit hard. . . Fortunately my offline days here in Oz are now over.
Glad the search is over.
Australia is one place I’d love to visit someday. It seems like a really beautiful place. Is this your first time there?
It´s our second visit, Diana (we have close family here). But hopefully not our last. Both Oh Patient One and I are totally in love with the place.
PS. Although I am freaked out by spiders and Oh Patient One by snakes, we haven´t encountered any. Whew.
[...] discovered this shortly after our arrival. Oh Patient One and I–during our quest to discover where all the Wifi had gone–happened upon a nice looking café that advertised Wifi. Success! Or so we thought. . [...]
